Directions: Make the sentences using Present Continuous tense with suitable forms of verbs given in the brackets.

  1. She ……………, she …………… chess with her friends. (not work, play)
  2. She …………… for America next year. (leave)
  3. What you …………… at present? I …………… a poem. (read, read)
  4. We …………. lunch at 2.00 tomorrow as Ram …………. a noon train. (have, catch)
  5. Meena usually does the cooking but I …………… it today as she isn’t here. (do)

Exercise B – Answers

  1. She is not working, she is playing chess with her friends.
    • Explanation: The verb “work” is changed to “is not working” to denote a negative action in progress. The verb “play” is changed to “is playing” to denote an action in progress.
  2. She is leaving for America next year.
    • Explanation: The verb “leave” is changed to “is leaving” to denote a future action or a definite arrangement in the near future.
  3. What are you reading at present? I am reading a poem.
    • Explanation: The verb “read” is changed to “are you reading” and “am reading” to denote an action in progress.
  4. We are having lunch at 2.00 tomorrow as Ram is catching a noon train.
    • Explanation: The verbs “have” and “catch” are changed to “are having” and “is catching” respectively to denote future actions or definite arrangements in the near future.
  5. Meena usually does the cooking but I am doing it today as she isn’t here.
    • Explanation: The verb “do” is changed to “am doing” to denote an action in progress.
